Moorilla Museum

architectsdesignhaus were engaged to readapt the old Moorilla residence, which was a sophisticated and highly valued part of Tasmania’s modernist architecture. The renewal of the existing dwelling came as a direct response from the building’s new owner, David Walsh as he desired to share his collection of antiques with the public. It was at this point architectsdesignhaus assisted David Walsh in laying the foundation and creating a vision for the Mona Museum we know today. The complex brief saw the need to enhance the historic values of the original Roy Grounds building while designing for an ever-growing collection of exotic artefacts. The design enclosed the internal courtyard, added amenities, and provided controlled environmental spaces for his nascent collection of African antiquities, coins, sarcophagus and contemporary artwork.
