Michael was educated at UTAS & registered in 1992, practicing exclusively in Tasmania & extensively throughout the state.
He has a broad set of design skills over a vast array of project types, ranging from museums, hospitals, retail & commercial, aged care, industrial, public & private housing, interpretation centres, restoration & heritage, to name but a few categories.
He brings creativity & excellent design / documentation skills to the table, backed by exhaustive technical knowledge of materials & construction methodology. He is very much a “team player” with a collaborative approach, who always looks to mentor & nurture other staff members in the various disciplines of architectural practice & to pass on the benefit of this knowledge & experience to them.
Mike’s approach to design is towards the ‘timeless’, rather than the ‘faddish’, with his design emphasis weighted heavily towards the basics, such as response to climate, the immediate & broader context, scale & the general ‘neighbourliness’ of a design solution. After all, architecture is a public art, generally there for the long term & design solutions need to address the greater good.
It’s very gratifying to receive positive feedback on a project from the general public, rather than just from one’s peers, because it indicates that the architecture is making a positive impact upon how people experience an environment we have designed.
