Moorilla Chalets

David Walsh approached us with the desire to revitalise the existing Morilla house originally owned by the Alcorso family who ran Silk and Textiles mill in Glenorchy into a museum of new and old artefacts MONA.

We retained most of the detailing and added to this detailing with any new or adapted spaces. We enclosed the central courtyard to allow the museum to be used for functions whilst allowing patrons to view the many artworks owned by David including some inserted into the courtyard floor.

This project led to 4 Chalets which were located on the northern escarpment which has aboriginal middens. We created a light footprint by using trusses supported on 2 footings with a simple gable roof. The lower floor level was suspended from these trusses. There are 2 bedrooms each with facilities and views over the Derwent River. There are artefacts inserted into walls and floor with glass on all sides of the chalets
