Taroona High School

To accommodate the exponential growth experienced by a middle to upper years school, a refurbishment of old spaces and a provision for new spaces were needed.  An extension, perched on top of the existing school building brought for more learning and teaching environments that aimed to bring staff, academics and students together in a collective space.  The lightweight and fine-grain extension accommodated learning environments that contribute to social, practical and theory-based learning.  Innovative laboratories and associated informal study areas and creative community environments culminate at a sweeping central staircase.

Its curved shape was to create an iconic gesture for the school that complemented the existing building fabric and took advantage of the sweeping views across the River Derwent.
